\"\"Every year in April Kyoto<\/strong>, the Japanese capital of Art, changes its traditional kimono<\/em> dress into a super contemporary style. How? Wearing the thousand colors of KYOTOGRAPHIE<\/em><\/strong> International Photography Festival<\/em><\/strong>. In occasion of KYOTOGRAPHIE festival, the ancient capital of Japan shows some of the most influent photographers of the world together with new talents which have the chance to be exposed in a sort of \u201cMilano Fuori Salone\u201d called KG\u207a<\/strong><\/a>. Just to quote some of them, we\u2019ve seen the sensual pictures by Araki, the pop images by Cattelan and Ferrari<\/strong>, the black and white<\/strong> romantic photos by Ren\u00e9 Groebli<\/strong> and the mysterious caves of Rapha\u00ebl Dellaporta<\/strong>\u2026and much more!<\/p>\n

In spite of this contemporary wave, the ancient Kyoto does not lose its charm\u2026 but KYOTOGRAPHIE<\/strong> festival seems to enhance the beauty of the Japanese city of Arts. In fact, the exhibitions\u2019 locations are identified with famous temples or antique houses: such as for example Nij\u014d<\/em> castle<\/strong>, the National Museum<\/strong>, old sake stocks<\/strong>, alcove in zen<\/em> style<\/strong> and so on. Photography enters in these spaces and confers to them a unique cool-vintage style<\/em> in between old and new.<\/p>\n

At the base of this project there are Lucille Rayboz<\/strong> and Yasuke Nakanishi<\/strong>, a nice French-Japanese couple that in 2011<\/strong>, immediately after Tohoku<\/em> Earthquake, decided to connect Japan to the world through the international language of photography.<\/p>\n

This year the theme of the fifth edition of the festival is \u201cLOVE\u201d<\/strong>. The reason behind this concept is the celebration of LOVE at 180\u00ba<\/strong>: Lucille and Yasuke\u2019s final aim is to share the concept of LOVE overcoming races and religions, borders and obstacle, through the mean of photography.<\/p>\n

\"\"TOILEPAPER<\/a><\/strong>: the magic couple Cattelan-Ferrari<\/strong>, followed by Wakapedia from Italy till Kyoto. The location where Pierpaolo Ferrari<\/strong> held the speech in a room entirely covered by TOILETPAPER images and design objects. Actually the all 3 floors building has been decorated in TOILETPAPER-style<\/em>: the shop at the entrance, the branded stairs, the living room at second floor, and the red room with large bed, a mirror ball pending from the ceiling and a lap-dance pole to confer an atmosphere in between an European night club and a Japanese love hotel.<\/p>\n

ARAKI<\/a><\/strong>: we shouldn\u2019t skip one of the worldwide best known Japanese photographers, famous for his erotic pictures which disclose the deep taboo of the Japanese society. This time not only Araki<\/strong>\u2019s artworks were provocative but also the location of the exhibition: the Kenninj<\/em><\/strong>, which is the most ancient zen temple of Kyoto\u2026what a paradox!<\/p>\n

\"\"RAPHAEL DALLAPORTA<\/a><\/strong>: the young French photographer Rapha\u00ebl<\/strong>, has been shooting the Grotte Chauvet<\/em><\/strong>, located in the South of France, for more than 10<\/strong> years. Today UNESCO<\/strong> recognizes those caves as World Cultural Property<\/strong>, and Rapha\u00ebl was be able to confer an extreme contrasting look of such precious place organizing a photo exhibition completely in 3D<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

YOSHIDA AKIHITO<\/strong><\/a> is an ex elementary teacher who left his work after his wife told him that he should start taking pictures instead. Driven by this sort of\u00a0omen<\/em><\/strong>, Akihito bought a brand new Canon and started to shoot his cousin and his grandmother. It was the year 2011 when he began, and Akihito carried on this sort of life-photo-report for 3 long years realizing \u201cFALLING LEAVES\u201d<\/em><\/strong> photo collection. Wandering why such a sad title? Because the young protagonist of the pictures committed suicide few years ago, leaving his surreal life detached from the society without any reason.\"\"<\/p>\n

One of the emergent photographers which impressed us was Mark Vassallo<\/strong> with \u201cFORM IS EMPTINESS\u201d <\/em><\/strong>series. The English photographer experimented a totally innovative technique covering the picture\u2019s background with gold leaves. By using gold leaves<\/strong> Mark could play with the light\u2019s reflection, in fact the pictures\u2019 surface changes aspect several time per day, depending of the different light that hit them.<\/p>\n
